What are we up to this month?

If like us at The Full Moon, you are counting, it is only 14 weeks till Christmas - that's only 14 Saturday nights to fill, 3 pie and pint nights left of 2009 and a handful of lazy Sunday breakfast opportunities to take advantage of!

Will and myself have been taking some time to look back at the year and our resounding success to date has been our take away fish and chip take aways. We are proud to be the home of the original pub fish and chip take away, and pride our self on using the freshest fish, home made chips and real ale batter. The easy and cheap option would be to use frozen pre battered fish and frozen chips using potatoes from who knows where, but we are as ever dedicated to using fresh, carefully sourced produce and putting the effort into making something great from it. To celebrate our take away success we are offering 2 fish and chip take aways with home made pea puree for a jaw dropping £9.99 throughout October.

We have made many changes since taking over The Full Moon in September 2007, one of which has been massive improvements to the kitchen. Weeks before we bought The Full Moon, Newark and Sherwood environmental health department gave The Full Moon and its chef at the time no stars (who can forget the headlines in the local paper that week!) due to the poor standards in the kitchen. We are now pleased to have 3 stars for the standards in our kitchen and are making improvements needed for our 4th star.

This year has also seen a flurry of weddings at The Moon which has been exciting for both staff and our customers! Many of our regulars have enjoyed being happy bystanders at the weddings this year and have helped create a perfect village pub atmosphere. We are getting booked up with ceremonies in The Morton room for 2010 and have something rather special planned for next year. If you know of anyone looking for a wedding day with all the excitement (and Elvis!) but no fuss  then watch this space!

We have also been busy this year with charity events and of course our Robin Hood Marathon. We raised nearly £1000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Beaumond House and everyone who took part had a great day. Our next event is our Little Spooks party on Thursday 29th October from 5 - 7pm raising funds for Fiskerton Friends pre school. With a trick or treat route, spooky games and bangers and mash supper, it is a great evening for children to get dressed up and have a fun Halloween in a safe environment. Tickets are available from Fiskerton pre school and The Full Moon.

Christmas will be the usual festive mayhem of good food and plenty of good beer. Will has more festive alcoholic treats lined up (!) and we are looking forward to celebrating in our new look Full Moon. We have a few tables left for Christmas day and the following week seems to fill up pretty quick with family parties and ramblers so we advise booking as early as you can. We also have a great Christmas party menu this year suitable for both family get togethers and office parties. If you are designated organiser for your group party this year, have a look at our menu before you go anywhere else.

We are trying something new this year for New Years Eve and have hired a traditional Wurlitzer Juke Box for the night. We have an individually priced menu and will be leaving it to you to choose the tracks to see 2010 in with. We often find that New Years Eve bookings start slow and then we end up turning people away the day before.

Well, thats about all for now - don't forget its that magic time of year ( and our favourite) when the fires are lit in The Moon, the kitchen is cooking barley broths and stews and the pub is filled with cosy chatter.

 See you soon

Will, Becks and co

PS we are looking forward to our next Scarecrow trail for Easter 2010 and would appreciate any suggestions on how to improve on 2009 or potential themes for entrants. Oh and does anyone know when Easter is?!
